Dealing with Phobias

Fear knows no bound! Each one of us suffers from some phobia. Different phobias for different people, in other words, what may be phobia for me may not be for you. Phobias are result of myths and beliefs and occur mainly out of psychological reasons. When some unknown fear that gets rooted in our brain; it turns into phobia. Generally, the phobia is self-created asylum and can be cured only if the person tries to come out of it. Phobia, sometime creates awkwardness, sense of guilt, disbelief, shame and such person remains puzzled for rest of his life.
The long-term effect of phobias may lead to mental illness; although these are nothing more than habits developed by our brain. However, such habit is mostly situational and it may occur only when a person is exposed to situations that trigger his phobia. The situation alerts the brain, triggering the habit and the brain runs it. However in certain conditions, our memory senses are capable of running such habit without the person actually realizing it. This may happen at the initial stage when the person starts to get phobia attack.
The best way to deal with phobias is to re-learn things. More like our childhood days when we are taught how to put on our socks, going to school and doing our homework. The entire idea revolves around developing new habit to break the old one. There is no guaranteed medication to phobia; neither doctor nor psychiatrist can be of much help unless one gets into the cure himself. This is called self-help method in which the person tries to overcome his fear with his willpower and determination. Although it's a slow process but certainly effective. Just get all such horrifying memories out of your mind. I have a friend who was suffering from aerophobia -- the fearing of traveling by plane. Once he was forced by the situation to travel by plane and then he realized that there is actually nothing to fear about.
After several flights, he was able to come out of his aerophobia illusion. He was possibly driven by the unavoidable situation to travel by the plane and surprisingly got his cure. In some cases, the cure could be easy whereas some may take a little longer than expected. You may also see an expert and ask for the initial guidance and rest you can deal with your positive attitude and determination. Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/2339107
